VESSELS_ fuori il nuovo singolo feat. John Grant, che accompagna il nuovo disco in uscita il 29 settembre

In contemporanea all’uscita del singolo, i Vessels annunciano gli special guest del loro tour nel Regno Unito. A condividere il palco nelle date di Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff e Glasgow ci sarà infatti il produttore con pianta stabile a Londra Guy Andrews (Houndstooth), che ha appena pubblicato il suo nuovo album Tåke.

The Great Distraction uscirà il prossimo 29 settembre per la Different Recordings.Includendo le collaborazioni di artisti del calibro di The Flaming Lips, Vincent Neff (Django Django) e Katie Harkin (Sky Larkin), l’album rappresenta un importante passo in avanti per i Vessels.

Alle rivelanti partecipazioni presenti nel disco si aggiunge l’evoluzione del loro sound rispetto al passato, percepibile nell’inarrestabile intensità ipnotica di brani strumentali quali ‘Mobilise’ e del loro primo singolo ‘Radiart’, oltre che nella frammentata e complessa bellezza della traccia ‘Radio Decay’. Come spiega il batterista Tim Mitchell, “A few of the longer instrumental tracks on the album strike a balance between long, dirty, polyrhythmic techno and the math-rock, post-rock band we used to be, and that’s never left us”.

The Great Distraction simboleggia il percorso di autoanalisi della band rispetto alla nascita, alla morte e all’invecchiamento, tradotto in un’esplosiva scarica di energia che da sempre costituisce il tratto distintivo dei Vessels.

Come dichiara Martin Teff, “We’re not 18 anymore. I think this album represents a convergence of where we are in our personal lives and where the band is in its journey. And it all seems to be happening at a time when the world is quite a strange place. The music acknowledges a bleakness and tension, but I think our response is optimistic and euphoric”.

Una riflessione che si applica indirettamente all’origine del titolo The Great Distraction. Come afferma lo stesso Martin, “The title came from a misheard lyric that John Grant had written. To us, it resonates in a few different ways. Personally, I like art that has a slower impact like that”.

Con alle spalle quattro album e oltre un decennio di vita, si sarebbe portati a pensare cheThe Great Distraction sia l’apice definitivo della band. In realtà, l’inarrestabile ricerca dei Vessels è appena iniziata.

Come spiega il produttore e principale songwriter Lee J Malcolm, “We’re always learning and trying new stuff, and the set-up has evolved as the records have evolved. The exploration of sound to me is so exciting and that, for me, is the catalyst for everything”.

Affermazione sostenuta dallo stesso Pete, che aggiunge “Lee once said that ‘it’s a puzzle we might not solve’, but this, this feels like we’ve landed on something .

Il loro quarto album The Great Distraction uscirà il 29 settembre per l’etichetta Different Recordings. I Vessels suoneranno live al Village Underground di Londra il prossimo 4 ottobre.
