Un buon inizio di anno per questo duo che, dal 2011, è in grado di regalare emozioni ai confini dell’immaginabile, tra neoclassica e dance contemporanea.
Dall’incontro di Adam e Dustin con il regista ed attore Jalil Lespert nasce “IRIS”, la colonna sonora del nuovo film francese che vede come attori, tra gli altri, Romain Duris, Charlotte Le Bon e lo stesso Jalil Lespert.
Lespert scopre causalmente dal web le musiche di A Winged Victory For The Sullen e subito ha pensato “it was the sound of my new film“. Le musiche di “IRIS” accompagnano uno script carico di tensione, sensualità ed ombre. Adam e Dustin, nel nuovo lavoro, si muovono in territori musicali diversi e contrastanti: quartetti d’archi su flussi elettronici che delineano un sound moderno e cinematografico.
“Despite A Winged Victory For The Sullen being associated with film score type music, trying to survive the process of creating the modern film score is not for people with fragile egos. It requires those who are the most responsive to change. The director and the film presented a new set of challenges, so we decided to stop thinking about cinema as an object, and moved closer to using the film’s images as triggers for experiences. The more we were able to let go, and see the music as something that happens, like a process – not a quality, the more we were able to reach a place that sounded like us. It was as if we were making our first record all over again, except being filtered through another language littered with dead metaphors” – A Winged Victory For The Sullen
Registrato e prodotto a Berlino dal collaboratore di lunga data Francesco Donadello, la scrittura di “IRIS” è stata realizzata da Dustin ed Adam nel loro studio, sempre a Berlino, per poi registrare la sessione d’archi con i 40 membri della Magyar Radio Orchestra a Budapest.
In uscita per Erased Tapes Record il 13 gennaio 2017, la versione digitale di “IRIS” è arricchita da bonus track che includono due solo pieces di Adam Wiltzie (The Endless Battle Of The Maudlin Ballade Part 2 eThe Endless Battle Of The Maudlin Ballade Part 3) e le tracce realizzate da Petite Noir, dOP, DJ Pone e The Shoes, brani che compaiono nel film. L’artwork è a cura dell’illustratrice berlinese Stephanie F. Scholz.
